Boston Bruins vs NY Islanders
This series comes into Thursday night on the back of a pretty intense game 2, with the Bruins losing in overtime, dropping it 4-3 in what was a really exciting match-up. The Bruins struggled in the second period, tying it up in the third before losing in overtime.
The Bruins will feel pretty confident they can keep the scoring up, especially with Semyon Varlamov not looking at his best in the previous game. Thanks to the play of Josh Bailey, though, the Bruins will not exactly be rocking into tonight’s game feeling confident.
Tuukka Rask will need to do better than he did in the 4-3 loss, with his form in the series so far probably not up to the standard Boston were hoping for. Expect this to be a tough, hard-fought encounter between two closely-matched outfits.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Tampa Bay Lightning
The Carolina Hurricanes need to find whatever “it” is – and fast. They are staring down the barrel, having blown their home advantage in the series to sit 2-0 down. Losing 2-1 at home is always a blow, but it was the manner of the loss – the Hurricanes were simply blown off their own court by a Tampa Bay team that looked far more locked in. Andrei Vasilevskiy did his best in goal to try and keep an early onslaught from the Hurricanes, and he did so with relative ease.
Goals from Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli had put the Hurricanes in a hole, and the resplendent form of Vasilevskiy made any comeback harder to imagine. Indeed, the keeper was named as a finalist for the 2021 Vezina Trophy, so he’s definitely got more pedigree. He ended with a whopping 31 saves, proving his form and game winning contribution.
Alex Nedeljkovic will need to do much, much better in the next match-up. His poor form for both goals was a blow, but his generally shaky style fits in with the Hurricanes form at present – they are hanging on by the thinnest of threads, and need a transformative performance in this all-important Thursday night match-up.
