Every time Canelo Alvarez steps into the ring, boxing betting fans are guaranteed a good fight and with the unification of the super middleweight division, the winner will go down in history. Alvarez will take on Caleb Plant in one of the biggest fights of the decade, and this one is personal. Canelo holds the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles but all the belts will be on the line on November 6th, including Plant’s IBF title. Caleb Plant is undefeated but online bookmakers are still backing Canelo as the huge favorite, with odds priced at -800.
Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant: What To Expect
Canelo Alvarez needs no introduction and his record speaks for itself. The Mexican fighter has a total of 56 professional fights with one loss to Floyd Mayweather and is considered one of the best boxers of all time. We expect Canelo to dominate the ring and force Plant to fight on the back foot, despite Plant’s size advantage.
Canelo’s power and experience are huge assets to his game and has destroyed some of boxing’s biggest names who stood in his way: Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders. The Mexican has a peculiar style where he follows them around in the ring, unleashes deadly combinations and breaks down opponents. Both Canelos last two fights against Avil Yildirim and Saunders ended with the towel thrown in from broken eye sockets that impaired the fighter’s vision. Canelo is incredibly accurate with his stiff jabs and his combinations, making him one of deadliest strikers in the sport.
Plant holds an impressive record of his own. The undefeated IBF champion has 21 wins under his belt with 12 of them coming by way of knockout. The 6th of November will be his fourth title defence since he won the title from José Uzcátegui back in 2019. The American fighter has a 3.5 inch reach advantage and is the bigger man. His jab must be used profusely on the night to keep Canelo at bay, especially since he powers forward looking to land big shots.
Plant didn’t fight ‘nobodys’ either. Vincent Feigenbutz and Mike Lee are great fighters but were both knocked out by Caleb’s fast hands and sheer power. Canelo has proved that he can absorb punches and Caleb knows he’s got to throw his best bombs to hurt the Mexican.
Alvarez vs Plant Betting Odds
As expected and mentioned above, Canelo is the huge favorite to unify the division. In order to improve your potential payout, you need to look for bets beyond the fight result, as a $50 bet would only return $56.50. Odds for the Mexican to win by way of KO/TKO/DQ improve slightly at -190, but it’s still not the best bet to make a decent profit. Backing Canelo to win by unanimous decision has odds priced at +210, but we’re unsure of how Plant’s chin will hold up on the night. Keep in mind that Canelo has knocked out many opponents with body shots, which is why odds for a KO victory are not the most attractive.
With odds of +550, a $50 bet on Plant to emerge victorious could potentially return $130. We cannot see Plant knocking out Alvarez, even though odds for doing so come in at a whopping price of +1200. The most logical outcome, should Plant overcome Canelo, would be on points, which is also priced at +1200.
For a more thrilling experience and better odds, try group round betting, where you’ll be betting on a range of rounds that you think the fighter is going to win in. For instance, backing Canelo to win between rounds one and four has odds set at +450. There are plenty of betting options to choose from but before you do, take everything you’ve just read into consideration and don’t be fooled by the odds.
Fight Prediction
Both fighters are world class and have exceptional boxing records, however, there hasn’t been a fighter that can match Canelo’s speed, power and accuracy. We’re backing Alvarez to unify the super middleweight division and go down in history.
To Bet: Canelo to win by KO/TKO/DQ with odds of -190.
