As Tokyo 2020 kicks off a year after it was supposed to, the opportunities for boxers to rise to stardom have never been more in-demand. With a year of missed sport for many, the chance to get back in the ring and show the world what they can do makes the 2021 Olympic events one of the most special in years. However, with so much to expect from this year’s Olympic boxing, who can we see doing well? Who looks to have a good chance at ending this grueling festival of combat sport with a medal around their neck? Let's take a look at the boxing betting options available to you!
Welterweight
If you want to back two fighters to have a good shot at doing something good at Welterweight, then we recommend you look at Roniel Iglesias (+550) or Bobo-Usmon Butarov (+1600). Both have had very impressive progress and development heading into the event, and the latter in particular looks to have a very good chance at beating what looks to have very heavy odds against him.
At +1600, Baturov is a boxer who clearly isn’t winning many hearts in the bookmakers office. An impressive run of form, though, and a generally excellent fighting demeanor, as well as the hugely rising standard of Uzbeki boxing, making him a good choice to back for success.
Lightweight
The lightweight boxing selection looks pretty varied this year, with a few interesting names bringing a lot of attention. One name we can see doing very well is Dzmitry Asanau (+700). The Belarusian has a fine fighting form and has impressed on his way to the Olympics. With many tipping him for a future at an even higher level, his low odds make him a good choice to back.
If you want to back someone with a very interesting background but no great fanfare arriving at Tokyo, back Hovhannes Bachkhov. The Armenian has a tremendous natural propensity to boxing and has been tipped as a rising star in Eastern Europe for some time.
Middleweight
This looks to be quite a crowded field, with most expecting Oleksandr Khyzhniak (-175) to have a fine tournament. The aggressive middleweight from Ukraine looks to be a gold medal certainty, but others are backing Eumir Marcial (+600) and Gleb Bakshi (+350) to have a good chance at competing for medal honors. It’s a really balanced group, but we expect there to be some excellent talent arising from the group this year – expect Marcial in particular to thrive, as he slowly but surely becomes a major star back home.
Super Heavyweight
Another interesting set of fighters can be found at Super Heavyweight. Many have Bakhodir Jalolov (-200) as the outright favorite, but better value can be found when backing Dainier Pero (+900) and Richard Torrez (+600). Torrez in particular has many fans who expect him to do well at the showpiece event. With incredible natural power and a very impressive form that has been developed over the years, Torrez looks to be a sound bet to have a good chance at earning a medal at least.
