Marvin Vettori had to wait three long years before he could step inside the octagon for a rematch against his nemesis. The first Adesanya vs Vettori clash took place back in 2018, where Adeyansa clinched the win by unanimous decision in a close, hard-fought battle.
A lot can change in three years and both fighters will bring new weapons to UFC 263. This fight is particularly important for Vittori, as redemption & pride are not the only things on the line, but the prestigious middleweight title too.

UFC 263: A Closer Look
Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori
Adesanya is the clear favorite for the main event and bookmakers are backing him with odds of -265 to retain his title. Israel sports an impressive fight record of 20-1-1 and a 75% knockout ratio, a 6-inch reach arm advantage, and a 3.5-inch leg advantage over Vettori. The Italian has odds of +210 to win the title, and considering the contrasting fighting styles, we should be in for a very entertaining rematch.
Both fighters have very different styles. Adesanya relies on his boxing and kickboxing abilities which is evident in his 75% KO ratio and with a knockdown average of 1.02 per 15 minutes of fighting. The Nigerian is undisputed in the Middleweight division, however, his last fight ended in a loss by unanimous decision in his light heavyweight debut for the title against Jan Błachowicz.
Marvin Vettori, aka ‘The Italian Dream’ is coming off a five consecutive win streak with his last defeat coming to the man he faces on June 12th. Vettori is trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and uses grappling as his main weapon. His KO ratio is very low, at 12%, which clearly contrasts the fighting styles in the upcoming middleweight title fight.
Take nothing away from the Italian though, as he has a higher strikes landed per minute ratio than the Nigerian. Vettori lands 4.78 strikes to Adesanya’s 3.95. With more strikes connecting, Adesanya needs to ensure to counter this in their second fight, since the first one was a close unanimous decision.
Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 2
Both fighters will be looking forward to facing each other again on June 12th, with their first fight ending in a disappointing draw. Figueiredo, who currently holds the featherweight title belt is the clear favorite with odds of -250. The Brazilian has an impressive 20-1-1 fight record with nine KOs, eight submissions, and three by unanimous decision. Figueiredo is a pure wrestler, with an impressive 2.27 submissions per 15 minutes in the octagon.
Moreno is a powerful opponent with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background. He has a higher submission rate than his opponent at 56% and a takedown defense of 69% when grappling. How well will the Mexican be able to defend Figueiredo grappling’s attacks is on everyone’s mind, as the Brazilian has shown incredible abilities on the ground. Moreno has an 18-5-2 fight record but it’s important to point out that the five losses were all by unanimous decision. The Mexican has not been knocked out or did not lose to submission. The odds for Moreno to snatch the title are set at +195. Anything can happen in combat sports, but the Brazilian is in a class of his own and UFC 263 will be the third title defense he’ll be defending in a year.
UFC 263: Expectations
Combat sports can produce some major upsets. Favorites and underdogs are just a way to separate the fighters and this is especially true in higher divisions. The Oliveira vs Chandler fight in UFC 262 is an example of that. The dicey bout ended in Oliveira’s favor to capture the vacant lightweight title, coming from behind after almost losing it himself.
We cannot see Adesanya lose this fight. His skills and abilities are unparalleled, coupled with the bombs he throws makes him a clear favorite. Vettori will be fighting with all his heart and soul in UFC 263. Another loss to the Nigerian will be a blow to the Italian’s career and future title shots, so you can rest assured that the main event at UFC 263 will be a pure spectacle for all fight fans.
